MapsOur Geographic Information System (GIS) department has developed a number of maps which we have made available as below. The data within these maps are specific to Esmeralda County and show the various geographic details as well as where the proposed rail and highway corridors intersect Esmeralda County. These corridors have been designated as the preferred routes for construction and operation of a rail system for transporting shipments of spent nuclear fuel, high-level radioactive waste, and materials to Yucca Mountain, Nevada. You can find more information regarding the details of this rail line on our transportation page. The Department of Energy (DOE) has analyzed the potential impacts of railroad construction and operation along common segments and alternative segments within the Caliente and Mina rail corridors. The Rail Alignment EIS (DOE/EIS-0369) The Caliente corridor, the preferred route, intersects Esmeralda on the eastern border near highway 95 and are shown on all the maps in yellow. If you would like to order a map, please click here and state within the email, which map(s) you are interested in and the details of your request.
